Revisión documental sobre el género Bacillus para el control de Hypothenemus Hampei en cultivos de café en Colombia: alternativa de protección a las abejas

Abstract

La industria del café en Colombia ha sido de gran importancia económica para el país debido a su alta producción y exportación pero esta se ha visto afectada por grandes pérdidas generadas por el insecto plaga Hypothenemus hampei (broca) en los cafetales. El agricultor, para contrarrestar dicho efecto, ha optado por emplear sustancias toxicas para las abejas, Apis mellifera, causando, posiblemente, la muerte de muchas de ellas. Esta problemática ha generado tanto disminución en la economía apícola como serios efectos en el ambiente, por su importante papel en la polinización, biodiversidad vegetal y suministro de alimentos., así como también en la calidad del fruto y aumento en la producción. Por esta razón, el objetivo de este estudio fue realizar una investigación documental sobre la acción entomopatógena de las bacterias del género Bacillus sobre el insecto plaga de los cultivos de café en Colombia, Hypothenemus hampei, como alternativa para disminuir el uso de sustancias toxicas que afectan la salud de las abejas e impiden su efectiva polinización. Se hizo una búsqueda en revistas científicas, libros y otras fuentes sobre los temas objeto de estudio, se organizó, analizó y se encontraron factores que alteran tanto la salud de las abejas, como la productividad de los cultivos de café. Se estableció que la incorporación de alternativas de control biológico y un monitoreo permanente en la salud de las abejas, es necesario para mejorar la calidad de los cultivos, aumentar su producción y generar ingresos, garantizando la sustentabilidad de los productores de café.

The coffee industry in Colombia has been of great economic importance for the country due to its high production and export, however, this has been affected by large losses generated by the plague insect Hypothenemus hampei (broca) in coffee plantations. The farmer, to counteract this effect, has chosen to use substances that are toxic to bees, Apis mellifera, possibly causing the death of many of them. This problem has generated both a decrease in the apicultural economy and serious effects on the environment, due to its important role in pollination, plant biodiversity and food supply, as well as in the quality of the fruit and increase in production. For this reason, the objective of this study is to carry out a documentary research on the entomopathogenic action of bacteria of the genus Bacillus on the insect pest of coffee crops in Colombia, Hypothenemus hampei, as an alternative to reduce the use of toxic substances that affect the health of the bees and prevent their effective pollination. A search was made in scientific journals, books and other sources on the subjects under study, it was organized, analyzed and found factors that alter both the health of bees, and the productivity of coffee crops. Establishing this way, the incorporation of alternatives of biological control and a permanent monitoring in the health of the bees, to improve the quality of the crops, increase their production and generate income, guaranteeing the sustainability of the coffee producers.
